Club History
1964 - 1973
The history of BallenIsles began in 1963 when John D. MacArthur and the Professional Golfer's Association of America (PGA) contracted with renowned golf course architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee to design a world class golf facility. The PGA of America was headquartered in BallenIsles beginning in 1964 and entered into a ten-year agreement with Mr. MacArthur to host major tournament play as the home of the PGA of America. The Club was then called PGA National Golf Club, which hosted the PGA Seniors' Championship from 1964 to 1973. During this ten-year period, the Club boasted several prestigious events including the PGA Championship and the World Cup, as well as the first PGA Merchandise Show and the original qualifying school for the PGA tour players.
1973 - 1988
In 1973, with the expiration of the MacArthur/PGA of America agreement, the Club was renamed JDM Country Club. It operated as a prestigious local golf and country club for the next fifteen years, remaining a host to many celebrities and professional golfers on the three now famous golf courses.
1988 - Today
In 1988, the 54 holes and surrounding real estate property were sold and renamed BallenIsles Country Club. A multi-million dollar, multi year plan to replace the clubhouse, improve the property, and develop a private country club community was initiated at that time. BallenIsles Country Club now offers its 1,350 Member families an unparalleled variety of amenities including the three championship golf courses. In 2000 and in 2003, the Club Forum rated BallenIsles Country Club a Platinum Club. This distinction recognizes BallenIsles as one of the top 100 Clubs in America.
