  • About The Club
    • Renowned for its superb level of service, BallenIsles features a newly-renovated 115,000 square foot Clubhouse and a 62,000 square foot Sports Complex which includes a fabulous spa and salon, fitness center, world-class tennis facilities and resort style swimming pool. Our six dining areas are noted for their variety of offerings, from casual to exceptional cuisine.

      Managed by Troon Privé, BallenIsles is a fully private club with an array of best-in-class amenities.

  • History
    • 1964 – 1973
      PGA National Golf Club – In 1963, legendary Florida developer John D. MacArthur and the PGA of America teamed up with golf course architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee to design a championship-caliber golf facility. Over the next ten years, BallenIsles, then called PGA National Golf Club hosted numerous major tournaments like the PGA Championship and PGA Seniors Championship and was home for the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. The Club also was the playing site for the original PGA TOUR Qualifying School and held the inaugural PGA Merchandise Show.

      1973 – 1988
      JDM Country Club – When the MacArthur/PGA of America agreement expired in 1973, the Club was renamed the JDM Country Club for John D. MacArthur. For the next 15 years, the prestigious local country club hosted many celebrities and professional golfers and staged many events on the three golf courses on the property.

      1988 – Present
      BallenIsles Country Club – In 1988, the three golf courses and surrounding property were sold by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and renamed BallenIsles Country Club. A multi-year and multimillion dollar plan to develop a private country club community was unveiled. Since the early 2000’s, BallenIsles Country Club has been consistently ranked as one of the Top 100 Clubs in America.

    • We are proud to announce that BallenIsles Country Club is being honored, once again, with the Boardroom Magazine, Distinguished Club Award. This places BallenIsles in the top five percent of clubs in the world. The rating system has been described as a Michelin guide for private clubs and rewards best practices in the industry.


      The Platinum status in the Private Club industry has been the most revered since the franchise was established in 1997. Over the years, with the input from the Club Leaders Forum Advisory Board, the criteria has been updated to be relevant and adapt to changing times in the industry. Platinum status is awarded in five categories: Country Clubs, Golf, City, Athletic and Yacht Club. For more than 20 years, Club Leaders Forum has been the go-to resource for the Private Club Industry.

      In a continuing effort to strive for Excellence and provide additional benefits to Clubs, Boards, Managers and Members.


      The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf is an award winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. By helping people enhance the valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats that golf courses provide, improve efficiency, and minimize potentially harmful impacts of golf course operations, the program serves an important environmental role worldwide.

      Audubon International has developed Standard Environmental Management Practices that are generally applicable to all golf courses. These standards form the basis for ACSP for Golf certification guidelines.
