Golf architect Rees Jones will be on hand for BallenIsles’ $7.5 million golf course renovation unvei
BallenIsles Country Club will unveil a $7.5 million redesign of its famed South Course on Sunday, and architect Rees Jones will be on hand to celebrate. Jones will take part in a grand opening event beginning at 10 a.m. at the 55-year-old course, which was closed eight months ago for a complete tee-to-green makeover. Renovations include new bunkers and design modifications, an all-new irrigation system, drainage and concrete cart paths.

Jones will take part in a grand opening event beginning at 10 a.m. at the 55-year-old course, which was closed eight months ago for a complete tee-to-green makeover.
Renovations include new bunkers and design modifications, an all-new irrigation system, drainage and concrete cart paths.
A new set of tees measuring approximately 4,000 yards also was added, which provides a shorter course playing option.'
“Embarking on our latest renovation, on the heels of opening our clubhouse, says a lot about our membership and quality we can expect,” BallenIsles Country Club General Manager Ryan Walls said. “We have a vision for our community, and Rees certainly helped form a key piece of the experience we provide.”
The South Course, originally designed by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson, first opened in 1964.
It has been redesigned twice; first in 1967 to accommodate the construction of BallenIsles’ North Course; and again in 1999 when new grass and bunkers were added.
The newest version will maintain the course’s routing while bringing a new strategic approach and modernizing its playability and conditions, Walls said.
With South Course renovations complete, BallenIsles Country Club features three modern day championship golf courses, including the North Course and East Course.
