The South Course is far more than just 18 holes of golf – it’s a respected part of BallenIsles’ history, where legendary players and designers have left their mark. In 1964 Dick Wilson completed the original design which was less than championship standards. In 1969, the course underwent a renovation by Joe Lee, increasing its hole count to 18 and expanding its playability.

Far from erasing Wilson’s and Lee’s impact, Jones’ aimed to enhance the South Course. “Few country clubs offer their Members such a historic connection to golf and we definitely wanted to remain true to the rich legacy of BallenIsles,” Jones told Executive Golfer. “The original layout provided ample playing corridors to build a thought-provoking course. My remodel will have an ebb and flow throughout the round, and I believe the members are going to enjoy the changes.” Furthermore, the course will maintain its classic design, yet new tees will be added to provide a shorter course option as well. A new irrigation system and cart trails serve to help make traversing the course more convenient.
