Golf at BallenIsles Country Club
BallenIsles features three championship golf courses:
That’s the stuff of Legends.
BallenIsles Country Club continues to enhance its storied past. Originally developed as the home of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, for many years it was the site of the PGA TOUR’s Qualifying School and hosted the game’s greatest players in the PGA Championship, World Cup, the PGA’s Senior Championship and numerous other golf classics.
The three Championship golf courses at BallenIsles, East and North were designed by two of the most highly-acclaimed golf course architects of the era: Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Known the world over as The Open Doctor, famed golf course architect Rees Jones redesigned the the South Course which opened in January 2020 with a $7.5 million renovation. Over the years, the courses have been enhanced with innovative and state-of-the-art updates so that each course plays at a championship level from the back tees and as a very playable course for those of all skill levels from more forward tees. Rees Jones has called the reconstructed South Course holes 7, 8 and 9 as "The Stretch" that will make or break your day. With water in play on every shot from tee to green and long yardages to navigate, this run of holes will require skillful decisions. The Doctor recommends you play strategically to avoid needing a script when the holes are finished.
In 2008, Golf Inc. Magazine recognized our $9 million renovation to the East course as a finalist for its national “Renovation of the Year” award. The North golf course undertook an extensive renovation in 2013 with a $5 million redesign by renowned golf course architect Kipp Schulties and is absolutely beautiful.
In January 2023, BallenIsles unveiled its
newly renovated East Course. Led
by Nicklaus Design, the 9-month, multi-million-dollar renovation project has
modernized the club’s famed East Course as well as its Practice Grounds. Renovation
work began on the East Course in April 2022 and focused on updating the
course’s design, including bunkering, greens complexes and strategy, a complete
re-grassing of the course and improvements to playing options for members and
tournament players alike. The newly reimaged Practice Grounds incorporates an
all-new 65-bay two-sided 12-acre Long Game area, complete with Toptracer
technology and Flagd Golf digital yardage boards, an abundance of aiming targets
for all types of long shots, a practice putting green, rough, uneven lie and
fairway bunker practice areas, along with a wedge range with targets from 30 to
105 yards. The four-acre Short Game area features the 25,000 sq. ft. Snead
Green putting course, five pitching and chipping greens, warm-up green and the
world’s flattest putting green. The area is complimented by the newly built '71
Learning Center featuring the latest technology with two indoor and two outdoor hitting bays. The Callaway Performance and Innovation Bay located in the Learning Center is a state of the art fitting suite first of its kind in the U.S.
