BallenIsles Country Club honors World War II veterans
More than a dozen veterans ages 92-101 swapped stories as part of an annual breakfast function at the Palm Beach Gardens club. BallenIsles Country Club honored nearly two dozen World War II veterans at a breakfast this week. During a function Thursday at the club, veterans ages 92 to 101 swapped stories and enjoyed a meal with families and friends. The breakfast is held annually at BallenIsles, with Leonard Yohay coordinating the event and serving as emcee.

PALM BEACH GARDENS - BallenIsles Country Club honored nearly two dozen World War II veterans at a breakfast this week.

During a function Thursday at the club, veterans ages 92 to 101 swapped stories and enjoyed a meal with families and friends.

The breakfast is held annually at BallenIsles, with Leonard Yohay coordinating the event and serving as emcee.

Service members are: Lenny Aaronson, US Coast Guard, age 93; David Blacher, US Army Air Corps, age 97; Elliott Edelman, US Navy, age 93; Robert Ettinger, US Army, age 94; Maury Feigenbaum, US Army, age 94; Edgar Feldman, US Navy, age 94; Walter Hirschinger, US Marine Corps, age 94, Sumner Husching, US Navy, age 101; Eddie Issow, US Army, age 100; Howard ‘Scrappy’ Johnson, US Army Air Corps, age 100; Arnold Kaden, US Army, age 94; George Karp, US Army, age 95; Ted Leizman, Merchant Marines, age 99; Walter Lyon, US Marine Corps, age 95; Leonard Nieder, US Army Air Corps, age 98; Allen Small, US Army, age 92; Marvin Tyson, US Navy, age 95; Leonard Yohay, US Army.

Johnson, who celebrated his 100th birthday Feb. 2, was awarded the Collier Trophy, Legion of Merit, Silver Stars, and Distinguished Flying Cross during his long military career.

He also co-founded the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association along with Robin Olds, another Air Force veteran.

Hirschinger fought at Iwo Jima, and Tyson fought Okinawa.
