BallenIsles’ New Executive Chef Joseph DiPrima From signature cocktails enjoyed al fresco to bountiful buffets serving lamb chops and prime rib, BallenIsles Country Club provide six distinct dining options that please every palate. Behind it all, the Club’s new Executive Chef Joseph DiPrima coordinates and oversees every aspect of the menu, cultivating authentic recipes that keep Members coming back for more.

Meet Chef Joseph DiPrima
Chef DiPrima has worked in every aspect of the food business since he was a child, from small mom-and-pop restaurants to five-star hotels. He is a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and has previously owned his own deli and catering company. DiPrima also joins the BallenIsles team with 18-plus years of private club food and beverage experience, serving as the executive chef at private clubs in Naples, Florida, Pinehurst, North Carolina, and as the executive sous chef at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. Here’s your chance to get to know Chef DiPrima.

1. Where did you find your passion for cooking?
“My passion for cooking started at a very young age working at my father’s bakery in Manhattan. My relationship with my dad was all about work and food. As a kid, all I ever wanted was to take over the family business, but my dad wanted me to go to college so I could have an easier and better life. He would have preferred for me to be a doctor or a lawyer, and I told him ‘Well, you should have not taken me to work at the bakery and taught me so well.’”

2. Which cuisine is your favorite to cook? Why?
“I grew up in an Italian household, so naturally that is my specialty. Every Sunday, we were at my grandma’s house or one of my aunt’s for an eating extravaganza. My grandma, mom, and aunts all taught me a love for food and family. Making your family happy through food is what motivates me. Every restaurant and Club I work at, I treat my members like family.”

3. What does your position as the new BallenIsles Executive Chef entail?
“My daily life as the Executive Chef at BallenIsles is very rewarding. This job entails tremendous dedication. There are a lot of moving parts, and you have to be on your “A” game all the time. It is a big task, and you need a small army to achieve success. We have a great team here at BallenIsles and I could not do it without them. My philosophy in leading a culinary team is ‘Happy Cooks Equals Happy Food.’ I look forward to bringing to the BallenIsles culinary experience what my family taught me, which is love and passion for food and family.”

4. What advice would you give to an aspiring chef?
“Some people search their whole life to find happiness. I am very fortunate that I knew at a very young age about my passion and love for cooking. My advice I give to my own son and to young people starting out today is, ‘Whatever you do in life, if you love it, you will be successful.’”
