Dozens of nonprofit and civic organizations were honored for contributions to their local communities last week at BallenIsles Country Club.

Forty-two organizations received financial grants totaling $720,000 from the BallenIsles Charities Foundation during its 2020 “Making a Difference” Grants Awards Ceremony March 10.

The donation includes $665,000 in grants, plus the final payment of $55,000 for the Feed the Hungry Pantry refrigerated truck.

Funds were raised over the past year by more than 140 volunteers and BallenIsles Country Club members through various fundraising events, including the Serena Williams Tennis Charity Event in December.

Williams and tennis professionals including Brenda Schultz-McCarthy, Johan Kriek and Ann Grossman donated their time so that all proceeds could be distributed to The BallenIsles Charities Foundation.

“Together we’re ‘Making a Difference,’” said Mark Freeman, President of The BallenIsles Charities Foundation. “Reaching our fundraising goal is a credit to the caring community of BallenIsles and the overwhelming support of our residents.”

This year’s fundraising total brings the foundation’s cumulative grants awarded to local organizations to more than $3.7 million over the nine years since its formation.

Last year’s record-setting charity event raised $745,000, which was distributed to 46 charities.

The nonprofit BallenIsles Charities Foundation provides financial and in-kind support to area organizations providing civic and educational programs, health and human services, and support for the environment.
